In 1987, Prof. Don Bouldin of the University of Tennessee and colleagues of the
Oak Ridge National Laboratory formed the MOSIS Users' Group. They launched
a newsletter that included not only items of interest to those designing integrated
circuits for prototyping via MOSIS but also for those designing, prototyping and
producing all types of microelectronic systems including embedded systems and
programmable system-on-chip platforms using FPGAs. For the first decade,
physical newsletters were mailed. Later the newsletter and calendar were rebranded
as the Microelectronic Systems News and broadcast via email to thousands of
subscribers throughout the world at no charge.
